In Professional Development welcomes Rachel Emms - In Professional Development

Written by In Professional Development | 25 February 2020

Rachel is passionate about education and following her PhD, began working as a tutor, assessor and administrator.

Having worked mostly with diploma and undergraduate level students, Rachel was keen to develop her career further. Working as a ‘Quality and Accreditation Executive’ at INPD presents an exciting opportunity for Rachel to not only support students with the accreditation process but also to work with the inspiring course content and materials.

We asked Rachel the following questions to find out a bit more about her.

Rachel, if you could sum up In Professional Development in 3 words what would they be?

Innovative – Evolving – Focused

What do you want to bring to In Professional Development?

Having worked as both a tutor and administrator within education, I feel well placed to support delegates in gaining their qualifications. I have also developed a keen eye for detail throughout my postgraduate studies and hope to use this in my quality assurance role, ensuring that course materials and resources are consistently produced to a high standard.

What are your first impressions of working at In Professional Development?

It’s a really exciting time to join the company. It’s great to see how passionate everyone is about both their individual roles and the bigger picture. Furthermore, there’s a focus on development and the company is constantly reflecting on practice and what can be done to improve.

What do you like the most about working at In Professional Development?

It’s a really nice environment to work in. Whilst everyone is very driven, the different departments work well together and people are always keen to help. On a more individual basis, the role itself seems really varied and I’m enjoying doing something different on a daily basis. It’s also great to be working with the delegates post-course and helping them throughout the accreditation process.

Since you started at In Professional Development, what have you been doing?

As well as getting my head around various processes and procedures, I’ve been working with our accreditation partners, tutors and assessors. It’s been really good to meet all the different people involved; getting to know the company, colleagues and delegates. I’ve also had the pleasure of working on site at one of our courses in Manchester which was a great experience and has helped to show me the whole process, from enrolling onto a course right through to acquiring a qualification.

What would you say your biggest non-work achievement is?

Outside of work, I’m very passionate about live music and I used to run a small promotions company as a bit of a hobby. Despite being a very stressful ‘hobby’, organising a two-day indoor festival is probably one of my greatest non-work achievements.

What would you say is your favourite pass time?

I really enjoy travelling, particularly if that’s coupled with going to a festival or show. It’s great to find new music, explore a new city and eat plenty of local food!
