Our Higher Education Leadership Programme offers a unique opportunity for current and future senior leaders to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding to drive effective improvement within an educational setting.

There are growing demands on school leaders and increased expectations of the education system in part due to recent educational reforms. The course content has been designed with these changes in mind, to develop the skills and knowledge required to meet the new challenges faced in education. This programme has been devised for leaders and senior stakeholders with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in education, and tackles issues directly related to the current field of national education and educational leadership.

What is covered in the Higher Education Leadership Programme?

As a senior leader, it is essential to have a clear understanding of your role in overall leadership and the effective management of the organisation. The course comprises of four modules and sessions, which cover the following areas:

Session 1 - Yourself as Leader in Education

This session focuses on the expectations of managers in the strategic environment, and how to act as a senior educational leader. In this session, participants will gain essential self-awareness and emotional intelligence to enable them to excel in their educational leadership role.

Session 2 - Working in a Strategic Environment

In this second module, we focus on understanding organisational culture and how to act politically. Delegates will gain a deep understanding of strategic influencing, along with tools and techniques to promote and enable effective collaboration and teamwork.

Session 3 - Business Planning and Building a Strategy in Education

This module focuses on how to take a strategic approach to implement change in education. Participants will learn about the different stages of change, and how to effectively manage and monitor progress. The module also covers evaluation methods and tools for strategy development and systems thinking.

Session 4 - Improvement Methodology and Delivering Excellence in Education

This final session teaches participants to think differently and encourages creativity and innovation across education. Under the guidance of expert tutors, we will cover a variety of techniques to deliver and improve performance in an educational setting.

PGCert in Higher Education Leadership

This 5-day course is delivered in our virtual classroom and led by experienced higher education practitioners. This programme is accredited by the University of East London, providing the opportunity to achieve a PGCert in Higher Education Leadership post-course. The PGCert is a postgraduate qualification which sits between a degree and a masters.

There are two assignments which are assessed through a work-based critically reflective essay or report. As it is work-based learning and the assessments can all be applied to the business situation/workplace, this then gives both the student and the wider organisation a chance to learn and adapt business practice.
