For Leaders. By Leaders.

The Directors Accelerator Programme is a five-day strategic intensive designed for senior leaders operating at, or stepping into, board-level responsibility.

It develops the core capabilities required of modern Directors, combining governance, financial oversight and strategic leadership with the realities of today’s business environment. The focus is practical and applied, enabling participants to contribute with greater confidence, clarity and authority in the boardroom.

Across the programme, participants strengthen their understanding of legal and fiduciary duties, build the financial fluency to interrogate performance and risk, and explore how AI, digital innovation and evolving regulatory demands are reshaping decision-making. Alongside this, the programme examines how strategy is shaped, challenged and executed — and the role leadership and culture play in sustaining long-term organisational performance.

Delivered through expert-led sessions, real-world scenarios and board-level frameworks, the experience reflects the complexities Directors face in practice. Participants leave with sharper judgement, stronger governance capability and a clear, actionable plan to enhance their impact at board level.

The programme is designed for current directors, newly appointed directors and senior leaders preparing to step into a board-level role. It is particularly suited to those who have operational expertise in one function, such as sales, technology or operations, but want to develop a broader understanding of governance, financial oversight, and strategic decision-making across the whole organisation. Attendees typically come from SMEs, private equity-backed businesses, and large corporates across sectors, including professional services, healthcare, manufacturing and financial services.

The programme covers five core competency areas: Day One focuses on the role of the director and the board, including legal and fiduciary duties under the Companies Act. Day Two covers finance for non-finance directors, including interpreting financial statements and assessing organisational health. Day Three addresses AI, digital transformation and productivity for board-level leaders. Day Four develops strategic leadership capability, including how to shape and challenge organisational strategy. Day Five covers people, culture and building high-performing organisations.

The Directors’ Development Programme Accelerator is an intensive course designed for current and aspiring directors who want to strengthen their strategic, financial, and governance capabilities.

This course is perfect for director-level delegates who are ready to use practical board-level frameworks, expert-led sessions, and peer learning to improve decision-making, enhance organisational performance, and increase their confidence.

All participants receive a certificate of completion from INPD on finishing the five-day programme. Participants who wish to achieve a formal academic qualification can enrol in the optional Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership for Directors, validated by the University of Chester at Level 7 (master’s level). The Postgraduate Certificate involves work-based learning assessments and can be completed within seven months of the programme. It is assessed separately and carries an additional fee

The virtual and in-person programmes cover identical content across the same five-day structure. Virtual delivery takes place in our LIVE virtual classroom, allowing participants to attend from anywhere in the UK or internationally without travel costs.

In-person delivery is held at venues in London and Manchester and provides direct peer networking opportunities with fellow directors attending from different organisations. Both formats offer the same access to INPD’s specialist tutors and qualify for the optional University of Chester Postgraduate Certificate pathway.
