How to Implement Resilience Training in the Workplace

How to Implement Resilience Training in the Workplace

More and more workplaces are focusing on resilience as a core necessary skill for their staff to develop. Following on from our previous blogs on resilience in the workplace, in this article we will explore why resilience training is important within the workplace, and why workplaces need to invest in this kind of training to be successful. We will also explore why resilience training should be a focus for businesses in order to grow their cultures.

Understand Why You Need Resilience Training

Stress and pressure within the workplace is sometimes unavoidable in today’s modern climate. Businesses need to fight to stay relevant and competitive in fast changing times, and as a result, employees commonly work in a fast paced environment. They work towards ambitious targets to suit the needs of their business. People often thrive in this kind of environment, however resilience training is still important. Resilience training allows your workplace to create a productive working environment, and to manage stressful situations properly and effectively.

Highlight Your Priorities for Your Resilience Training

In order to implement the best possible resilience training programme within your organisation, you need to understand what your goals are and what key aspects you need to improve. An open discussion with what staff members struggle with the most is key to highlight what they can utilise their resilience training to improve on. For example, if their workplace is a fast paced environment, then learning ways to manage stress is important. If their workplace is struggling to work together well, then tips to improve communication and team building is important.

Communicate with Employees and Listen to Them

In order to effectively create a resilient workplace culture and to introduce a successful resilience training programme to your business, it is important to listen to the needs of your employees. If they are feeling stressed and under pressure, you need to make it a priority to find out why. You should then communicate what you can do to assist them and to alleviate this. It will also be beneficial to be transparent and open with them in changes within the business that will effect them. When it comes to introducing resilience training to your organisation, it is vital to communicate this to staff and to find out what they need help with. This will ensure that the resilience training is enhanced for the struggles of the staff within your organisation.

Focus on Job Satisfaction

By implementing resilience training within your business, you are likely to improve the job satisfaction of your employees. In doing so, your business’ culture and employee retention will improve, allowing you to develop and progress your staff from within your organisation. This will also save your company time and money in recruitment and training new starters.

Encourage Early Adoption by Senior Leaders

In order to create a resilient culture and to implement resilience training, senior leaders within the business need to be the biggest advocates for resilience training. Senior leaders are the people within a business the rest of the company look up to, and they can set the culture and the tone of the workplace. Therefore, in order to create a resilient workplace that encourages resilience training, senior leaders need to encourage this themselves, and make resilience training a focus for the business’ culture.

Reinforce Your Resilient Culture with Policy

Creating company policies is a vital aspect of effectively implementing resilience training to grow a more resilient culture. Companies around the world are encouraging resilience through employee wellness programmes, mental health ambassadors, policies that encourage healthy lifestyles and discounted gym memberships to encourage exercise and relaxation after work. When working in unison with an effective resilience training programme, these policies are very useful in contributing to growing a more resilient culture.
